No trade: Broncos forced to cut WR Tim Patrick

After failing to find a trade partner, the Denver Broncos have released veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick.

Patrick (6-4, 212 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Utah with the Baltimore Ravens in 2017. He was cut by Baltimore during training camp and was then picked up by the San Francisco 49ers, who cut him when they set their 53-man roster that summer.

He later joined Denver’s practice squad and went on to make the active roster in 2018 and served as a rotational backup that fall. Patrick then missed half of the 2019 season with a hand injury before breaking out in 2020.

Patrick totaled 104 receptions for 1,476 yards and 11 touchdowns from 2020-2021. The Broncos rewarded that production with a three-year, $30 million contract extension midway through the 2021 season.

After signing his extension, Patrick then missed the entire 2022 (ACL) and 2023 (Achilles) seasons with injuries. He agreed to drop his 2024 base salary from $9.5 million down to the league minimum ($1.125 million) this spring. Despite taking a pay cut and playing well in preseason, the receiver’s time in Denver has come to an end.

Patrick, 30, will get a fresh start elsewhere and the Broncos will move forward with Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds Marvin Mims, Devaughn Vele and Troy Franklin at wide receiver.
