Clemson’s head coach, Dabo Swinney, shared his thoughts on which freshmen could make an impact in the upcoming season opener during his “Tiger Sports Hour” radio show on Monday. When asked by a fan through text, Swinney highlighted several new faces he’s eager to see in action on Saturday.

Leading the list was wide receiver Bryant Wesco, who Swinney described as being more than prepared for the challenge ahead. “Wesco is definitely one to watch. He’s ready,” Swinney commented, emphasizing the freshman’s readiness to contribute right out of the gate.

Swinney also mentioned another freshman wideout, T.J. Moore, who he believes is on the verge of breaking through. “T.J. is almost there. We’re hoping to see him step up soon,” Swinney added.

The coach didn’t stop with the receivers, pointing out redshirt freshman running back Jay Haynes, who is eager to make up for lost time after missing last season. Swinney also noted true freshman linebacker Sammy Brown and cornerback Ashton Hampton as players who could make significant contributions this year.

Though not all of these freshmen will start, Swinney is optimistic about their roles, particularly Brown’s involvement on special teams. “Sammy’s going to be all over the field,” Swinney said, indicating the linebacker’s versatility and importance.

As Clemson gears up for their season opener against top-ranked Georgia on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Swinney is confident that these young players will have a chance to show what they can do. “We’ve got a solid group of young guys who can make a difference for us this season,” Swinney concluded.

Clemson’s freshman class will look to impress just as the 2023 class did.
