The Arizona Cardinals trimmed their roster to 53 players on Tuesday and the next phase in roster building is adding players via waiver claims.

Last year, they were extremely active on the waiver wire, adding six players — offensive linemen Carter O’Donnell, Trystan Colon, Keith Ismael and Ilm Manning, tight end Elijah Higgins and cornerback Starling Thomas.

This year, the are again high in the waiver wire priority — No. 4 overall. So if there are players they want, they will get them unless the Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders or New England Patriots want the same player. Thsoe teams get priority over the Cardinals.

This year, they are in a different position with the roster and likely will be less active on the waiver wire. But let’s look at each position and go over whether or not they will likely look to the wire for improvements.

    Quarterback

This isn’t likely. They like Clayton Tune as their backup and they aren’t likely to carry three quarterbacks on the active roster.

    Running back

This is also unlikely. They already had to cut a very talented back in Michael Carter.

    Wide receiver

This is a possibility. After Zay Jones’ suspension, they could use someone with some proven production.

    Tight end

Can they get an improvement over Travis Vokolek? They aren’t looking to replace Trey McBride, Elijah Higgins or Tip Reiman.

    Offensive line

This is a possibility, as they do not have a backup who can play tackle other than Kelvin Beachum.

    Defensive line

This is unlikely with the group they have now.

    Outside linebacker

This is a position where they could add someone.

    Inside linebacker

If there were a position where it was most likely, it is here, as they have only three on the roster.

    Cornerback

They have six guys on the roster they like. They have three guys they like as starters and two rookies with promise. It is doubtful they address the position this year.

    Safety

This is a nope. They already have five safeties on the roster, which is really too many to begin with, especially with six cornerbacks.

    Specialists

    Nope.
