As we inch closer and closer to the start of the Ohio State football season, Ryan Day is making final preparations as the team is set to break the seal on the 2024 campaign. With that, position battles are being sorted out and starters are being named.

One of the biggest questions was how much playing time true freshman Jeremiah Smith would get in his first season. Day answered that question on Tuesday when he was asked if Smith would be starting with a simple “Yes.” It marks the first time a true freshman has started on offense with Day as the head coach.

Day was also quick to say that Brandon Innis is right there and will be getting plenty of action as well. The size, speed, and pure athleticism gave Smith the edge in earning the starting nod.

The Buckeyes are deep at receiver with senior Emeka Egbuka coming back for another year and breakout candidate Carnell Tate. Transfer Will Howard who was recently named the starting quarterback will have a wealth of talent in which to distribute the ball.

It all starts this Saturday as Ohio State welcomes Akron to town to begin its quest for a national championship. If the Buckeyes are going to get to the promised land, it looks like Ryan Day believes Jeremiah Smith will be a key factor in getting them there.
