Mr. Irrelevant, former Alabama safety Jaylen Key cut by New York Jets

One of the more difficult paths in the NFL is usually held by former Mr Irrelevants. That describes the final pick in each NFL draft. In 2024, the final pick of the draft was former Alabama safety Jaylen Key who was selected by the New York Jets. On Tuesday, Key was cut by the Jets in a series of roster moves.

Key performed well for the Jets this offseason. He played in 132 defensive snaps and recorded 11 tackles in three preseason games.

Given the fact that Key has been waived, other teams will now have the opportunity to claim him off of waivers. If he goes unclaimed, he will then have the opportunity to sign with any team.

Key’s NFL journey will likely continue. He will likely sign with a team on a practice squad deal. Key bring value at the safety position given his range and versatility. In one season at Alabama, Key played in 12 games. He recorded 60 tackles and one interception.
