The Carolina Panthers may be on the prowl for a pass rusher.

Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, the team hosted veteran defensive end Charles Harris for a workout on Thursday.

Harris, a two-time Second-team All-SEC selection at the University of Missouri, was taken with the 22nd overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins. He’s also gone on to play for the Atlanta Falcons (2020) and, most recently, the Detroit Lions (2021 to 2023)—having amassed 16.5 sacks and three forced fumbles over his seven-year pro career.

With projected starting outside linebacker D.J. Wonnum sidelined for at least the first four weeks of the regular season, the Panthers are still on the hunt for replacement to pair with Jadeveon Clowney off the edge. Head coach Dave Canales recently told reporters that the opening is, well, wide open.

“Yeah, up for grabs still,” Canales said on Wednesday. “This is a group of guys that’s worked really hard through camp and just gonna continue to see what DJ [Johnson], Eku [Leota], K’Lavon [Chaisson] can bring to us.”

Harris, now 29 years old, started in three of his 13 appearances for the Lions this past season.
