It’s not everyday that fans see a player in college football that is entering his seventh year of eligibility, let alone one that is clearly entering his prime. That is the case for Utah Utes quarterback Cameron Rising, who put on a heck of a show last night in the opening week of college football against Southern Utah.

Rising was the star of the show on the night posting career highs with 5 touchdowns through the air to put a punctuation on what ended up being a 49-0 blowout win for the Utes.

While Rising is not realistically in the running for a first-round quarterback, given his age and physical limitations, he has already shown enough savvy and skill to be considered as a potential backup quarterback at the next level. Resembling Gardner Minshew in both style and play, Rising could find himself on a similar career path as the current Las Vegas Raiders starter should he keep up his high level of play.

It’s early on in the season, but this appears to be set up to be a breakout year for the 25-year-old, seventh-year senior, which is great news after having missed all of last season with a major knee injury.
