ESPN’s Rece Davis explains what’s at stake for Texas A&M ahead of facing Notre Dame

Ahead of Texas A&M’ s 2024 prime time season opener vs. No. 7 Notre Dame on Saturday night, ESPN’s College GameDay has descended upon College Station this weekend, providing several of the show’s hosts time to talk to the local media on Friday afternoon.

College Football broadcasting legend Rece Davis , the show’s presenter, provided his own opinion on both programs and what a win tomorrow could impact, ranging from this season’s on-field results to recruiting. Over 100 prospects from the 2025, 2026, and 2027 recruiting cycles will reportedly attend the game.

As a noted fan of Texas A&M hiring new head coach Mike Elko this offseason, Davis feels that an Aggie win against a Top 10 opponent could do wonders for the first-year leader.

“If you win, it gives you a big boost. Everyone is paying attention, and it will help recruiting either way. Getting out on that stage, everybody’s aware; they’ll see what Elko is bringing to the table, see what they need, see the attention, and see the atmosphere and pageantry. Win or lose, it’s a great way to start for both teams.”

In terms of atmosphere, Davis and the rest of the Aggie fan base who will attend the matchup know that the 12th Man inside Kyle Field will affect the outcome in some way on Saturday night and help the Aggies secure a huge victory in the process.

No. 20 Texas A&M will host No. 7 Notre Dame on Saturday, August 31, at 6:30 p.m. CT, and the game will air on ABC.
