Watch ESPN’s College GameDay’s feature on Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard

As one of the two teams that ESPN’s College GameDay is covering this weekend, you knew that a feature with Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard was coming.

The Irish’s starter is very familiar with the Texas A&M defense, as he did play for its head coach Mike Elko last year. The connection between the two made it natural for Leonard to talk about it with Pete Thamel.

The two went fishing and had a conversation about what happened at Duke last year, the craziness of Elko leaving and entering the portal two days later. Obviously the family history with the Irish pushed Leonard to South Bend, but he knows his role.

While there may be a narrative about this game being Leonard vs. Elko, he knows that not the case. The quarterback said that “we decided not to make the game about ourselves.. I’m just here to help.” A very mature answer from the Irish starter, which hopefully plays a part in a Notre Dame win Saturday night.
