San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is recovering after he was shot during an alleged attempted robbery in San Francisco on Saturday, according to multiple reports.

NBC Bay Area’s Andrew Mendez confirmed with San Francisco District 3 Supervisor Aaron Peskin’s office that Pearsall was in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries after the incident in the city’s Union Square.

The 49ers shared a statement on Saturday evening that confirmed that Pearsall was the victim of an alleged robbery and was in “serious but stable condition” after sustaining a bullet wound to his chest.

“We ask that you please respect his privacy at this time,” the statement from the team read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family.”

Ahead of the team’s statement, San Francisco wide receiver Deebo Samuel shared on social media that his teammate was in good shape after news broke of the alleged robbery.

The San Francisco Police Department said in a statement that both Pearsall and the alleged robber suffered injuries and were transported to an area hospital for medical evaluations.

“I am extremely shocked and saddened about the shooting of 49ers player Ricky Pearsall today in Union Square,” San Francisco police chief William Scott said in a statement. “This kind of violence has no place in our city and will never be tolerated. My heart goes out to Mr. Pearsall and his family and I wish him a speedy recovery.”

San Francisco mayor London Breed confirmed on social media that the suspect was in custody.

“SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made,” the mayor’s statement read. “My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.”

Footage captured by KTVU’s Zak Sos shows an alert Pearsall walking to the ambulance after the alleged incident occurred.
