As if there was any doubt.

Scottie Scheffler capped one of the best seasons in PGA Tour history Sunday, winning the 2024 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta to win his first FedEx Cup title and the $25 million prize. Scheffler, who started the day with a five-shot lead, signed for a 4-under 67 to finish at 30 under for the week to beat Collin Morikawa by four.

And not even a shank from the bunker could stop him in the final round.

After having opportunities to win each of the last two FedEx Cup titles, including a six-shot lead heading into the final round in 2022, Scheffler finally got his elusive title, his seventh victory of the season, to cap off a season not seen in nearly two decades on the PGA Tour.

“Yeah, it’s a lot of fun. We’ve put in a lot of work to get to this point, and it’s been a long week. Right now I’m just pretty tired, so don’t really know how to put this into words,” said Scheffler. “But it’s a pretty special feeling to be finally holding the trophy.”

Included in Scheffler’s seven victories are a major championship, his second Masters title, and he also won the Players, becoming the first player to win the Tour’s flagship event in back-to-back years. He also claimed four signature events: the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the RBC Heritage, the Travelers and the Memorial, then he went and won the Olympic men’s golf competition.

On Sunday, he added another significant trophy to his case, the FedEx Cup as the season-long champion of the PGA Tour.

The last player to win seven times in a single season? Tiger Woods in 2007.

The win earns him $25 million in bonus money, and that’s on top of the $29,228,357 Scheffler earned in official money, the most in a single season in PGA Tour history.

“I feel like I’ve lived almost a full lifetime in this one year,” he said. “It’s been nuts. I don’t know, I think it just always comes back to my faith. I think that’s the thing that just keeps me grounded, keeps me in the right frame of mind.”

And if there was any doubt who was the Player of the Year, Sunday silenced that conversation.

“Just nothing fazes him. Whether I was close in gaining some ground or he was gaining ground, it didn’t change how he walked or how he played or how he went through every shot. That’s something to learn,” said Collin Morikawa, who finished second at 26 under, four shots back. “I think his mental game is a lot stronger than a lot of people know. It’s amazing what he’s been able to do for this entire season, and honestly kind of over this past, what is it, three years now. It’s been really cool to watch him, and hopefully I can draw something from that.”

Morikawa had the lowest four-day total of 22 under but he couldn’t overcome his deficit in the staggered strokes format. He started the week six shots back.

“I knew six shots was a lot to catch up, but I know I’ve made it up before. It was just nice to put together four good rounds throughout a week,” he said.

Xander Schauffele, No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings, says what Scheffler is doing is unlike anything he’s seen since joining the Tour.

“I think by the definition of dominance, I think that’s literally where he’s sitting. I don’t know how many weeks he’s been No. 1 player in the world. Since I’ve been out, I think Dustin [Johnson] had a run, Brooks [Koepka] had a run, Jon [Rahm] had a run, Rory [McIlroy] had a run but they kind of, they were kind of punching back and forth between 1, 2 and 3.

“Scottie has just been at the tip-top of the mountain for, what, two full years now it seems.”
