Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman looks more confident after short day vs. McNeese State

Texas A&M’s week 2 matchup vs. McNeese State is all but finished, as the Aggies are on their way to a blowout victory and the first victory for new head coach Mike Elko after last weekend’s loss to Notre Dame .

Coming into the game, starting quarterback Conner Weigman has been under fire for his poor performance against the Irish, throwing for a pedestrian 100 yards and two interceptions. Still, if we’re being honest, Notre Dame’s secondary might be the best unit Weigman faces all season.

Taking full accountability for his performance, Weigman spoke to the media earlier last week, knowing that a solid performance against the Cowboys might not get him back in the good graces of the fan base but only add to his confidence this season.

“I told them this morning that I’m going to step up. I won’t let one game define me as a person, and I won’t let one game define me as a player.”

On Saturday, the redshirt sophomore looked poised and much more decisive while leading the Aggies to five scoring drives, which included 11 of 14 for 125 yards, 2 touchdowns through the air, and four rushing attempts for 39 yards on the ground.

For nearly every one of his eleven completions, Weigman’s accuracy and touch improved greatly. At the same time, his final drive, ending with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Moose Muhammad, was by far his most impressive due to OC Collin Klein’s use of the quick passing game.

Is Weigman ready to lead the Aggies to their first SEC road win since 2021 vs. Florida next weekend? That remains to be seen, but the former 5-star signal-caller looks back on track.
