It wasn’t always pretty, but Michigan State football was able to overcome penalties and turnovers to upset Maryland on the road, 27-24.

The Spartans, who were over a touchdown underdogs in the game, had 10 penalties and quarterback Aidan Chiles had three interceptions, but thanks to some huge plays courtesy of Chiles, along with some gutsy play by the defense in crunch time, the Spartans were able to come away with this one.

Chiles finished with 363 yards and three touchdowns to go along with three interceptions. MSU’s tandem rushing attack of Nathan Carter and Kay’Ron Adams combines for 105 yards.

While Chiles showed off his arm, the really notable part of the offense today was the play of freshman wide receiver Nick Marsh, who exploded for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Jaron Glover and Montorie Foster Jr. also added receiving touchdowns.

Kicker Jonathan Kim also deserves a shoutout. Kim won the game in the closing seconds with a field goal, and he also hit a 50-yarder earlier in the game.

The Spartans will now take an unbeaten record back home to face Prairie View A&M next weekend.
