Penn State holds steady in US LBM Coaches Poll for Week 2

After moving up one spot last week, Penn State moved up one more time in the US LBM Coaches Poll following the second full week of college football. The Nittany Lions struggled to win against Bowling Green on Saturday but were given a boost courtesy of a loss by Notre Dame.

Penn State moves up to No. 7 in the updated US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday afternoon. Notre Dame, the former No. 7 team, suffered a shocking defeat to Northern Illinois, which helped the Nittany Lions move up a spot. The Fighting Irish were the biggest fallers, dropping to No. 19 and moving down 12 positions.

The top 6 remained unchanged, with Georgia receiving 48 first-place votes and Ohio State receiving three. Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss round out the top five. Missouri was the biggest riser within the top 10, moving up two spots to No. 8 after posting its second straight shutout to start the season.

Tennessee and Utah round out the top 10. The Volunteers moved up three spots, while the Utes moved up one. The biggest riser in the week two poll was Nebraska, which moved from the receiving votes category to No. 24 after its big win against Colorado . Iowa State moved up 11 spots after defeating in-state rival Iowa by a single point. In addition to the Cyclones and Cornhuskers, Memphis is the other team to join the poll this week. Iowa, Kansas, and North Carolina were the three teams that dropped out of the poll.
