It’s been quite the journey for the former Cleveland Browns and LSU kicker Cade York. He was traded for a conditional seventh round pick this summer to the Washington Commanders.

The Browns, however, will not see that pick back.

Following his debut with the Washington Commanders the team has released Cade York after missing both of his field goal attempts, one from 47 yards and another from 56. The missed kicks were a part of the Commander’s 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ debut.

As a result, the Cleveland Browns will not receive the conditional seventh round pick as compensation for trading York to Washington. York only had to be on the Commanders’ game day roster for two weeks for conditions to be met, making the week one game a tryout of sorts in which York did not pass.

York signed with Cleveland earlier this off-season but was traded to Washington before the season after they released veteran kicker Brandon McManus.

York was originally and notably drafted by the Browns in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft out of LSU after a strong collegiate career, though the draft price was still shocking to fans. After a strong start to his rookie year, he ultimately struggled throughout the rest of the season and the following preseason, leading to his departure from the Browns.

Washington will now be searching for a new kicker for the third time this year as the new season gets underway.
