Shortly after body cam footage was released of the incident involving Tyreek Hill, Calais Campbell, and multiple Miami-Dade Police Department officers, the Miami Dolphins released a strongly worded statement Monday night.

“It is both maddening and heartbreaking to watch the very people we trust to protect our community use such unnecessary force and hostility towards these players, yet it is also a reminder that not every situation like this ends in peace, as we are grateful this one did,” the statement reads, in part.

“… There are some officers who mistake their responsibility and commitment to serve with misguided power. While we commend MDPD for taking the right and necessary action to quickly release this footage, we also urge them to take equally swift and strong action against the officers who engaged in such despicable behavior.”

Hill’s response to the videos was much more brief:

On Sunday, MDPD director Stephanie V. Daniels announced in a statement that one of the officers involved in the incident was placed on administrative duties while an investigation is being conducted.

Earlier in the day on Monday, the South Florida Police Benevolent Association blamed Hill for the escalation, saying that the receiver “initiated this unfortunate incident” and that it’s “always best to obey lawful police commands first and complain later.”

The NFL and the Dolphins should take action against Tyreek. Watching the bodycam video, this is not the representation that should be tolerated. These were the actions of one feeling entitled and above the law. He got what he asked for and only got let go because of his status, anyone else would have been in jail.
