Bills' Cam Lewis on stepping up vs. Cardinals: 'Whatever I've got to do'

Cam Lewis did not score four touchdowns like quarterback Josh Allen against the Arizona Cardinals. Nor did he have a trio of sacks like pass rusher Greg Rousseau.

Even so, the effort put forth by Lewis in the Bills’ 34-28 win over the Cardinals was a big one.

Lewis, 27, stepped up for Buffalo’s defense nearly right away. Taron Johnson, one of the NFL’s best nickel defenders, sustained a forearm injury only a few snaps into the game and did not return.

Lewis entered and the Bills (1-0) did not miss a beat.

“He plays like a starter,” head coach Sean McDermott said via video conference.

Lewis credited his performance to the years of experience he has playing in McDermott’s defense.

“That’s why I’m here,” Lewis said. “Whatever I’ve got to do to help my team win.”

Lewis ended up notching 10 tackles against the Cards. Only linebacker Terrel Bernard (11) had more. The Bills will be looking for more of the same in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins (1-0) as Johnson has already been ruled out.
