Patrick Ricard believes Ravens can be efficient out of heavy personnel sets

The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 of the 2024 season by the final score of 27-20. The team saw success with running back Derrick Henry on the first drive of the game but only utilized him sparingly after that.

Baltimore found success running out of its heavy personnel early in the game, which it should try to do more often over the course of games. Ravens fullback Patrick Ricard spoke on Baltimore’s use of its heavy personnel, saying that it can be very efficient but does not take away from everything else the offense can do.

“I think very. It all depends. We’re going to see. But yes, when you have two big-body guys like that [Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews] who can get open, who can make difficult catches and are hard to bring down, I think it’s going to be very efficient, but it’s not going to take away from everything else that we’re going to do.”

Baltimore brought in Henry for a reason, and while head coach John Harbaugh made it clear that he isn’t getting 30 carries per game, he should be the focal point on the ground, particularly in heavy looks. Add in tight ends Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely who can do damage through the air, The Ravens should be looking to capitalize in every way they can with heavier sets all season long.
