‘TrEverBank’: Jaguars stadium renamed for home opener

Major renovations to EverBank Stadium are slated to begin in February , so long as NFL owners approve the proposal agreed upon by the Jaguars and Jacksonville City Council.

But the Jaguars’ stadium naming rights partner and their star quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, teamed up to make one temporary tweak ahead of Jacksonville’s Sunday home opener against Cleveland.

“EverBank is now TrEverBank,” Lawrence and EverBank revealed on Instagram.

ESPN’s Michael DiRoccco reported Thursday that signage throughout EverBank Stadium will be temporarily modified to include “Tr” for Week 2.

Lawrence in August partnered with EverBank, a Jacksonville-based financial services organization and the Jaguars’ stadium naming rights holder since 2010 (known as TIAA Bank from 2018-22).

The company said in a Thursday release that its website, ATM and financial centers will also temporarily rebrand as “TrEverBank.”

“I don’t like having too much of the spotlight with stuff like that, but I think it was clever,” Lawrence said via DiRocco. “They have the naming rights for the stadium, so it’s a good play on words, and I was fine with it.”

Jacksonville signed Lawrence to the biggest contract in franchise history this offseason in the form of a five-year, $275 million deal , tied with Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow’s largest average annual value ($55 million) in NFL history.

Through 51 starts with the Jaguars since becoming Jacksonville’s No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Lawrence has completed 63.7% of his passes for 11,932 yards with 59 touchdowns and 39 interceptions, adding 972 yards and 11 scores rushing.

The Jaguars (0-1) will host the Browns (0-1) at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
