Longhorns Wire staff predictions for UTSA Roadrunners at Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns return home to DKR in Austin after a program defining and nationally heralded win over the Michigan Wolverines. Texas takes on the UTSA Roadrunners under the lights.

UTSA is hoping to right the ship against the Longhorns, obviously a tough task. The Roadrunners were torched last week in the I-35 rivalry against Texas State 45-10.

Texas will be looking to keep it rolling and avoid any form of a letdown.

    Jamie Gatlin’s Prediction:

Following their best win of the season, the Longhorns will welcome UTSA to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Against the Michigan Wolverines last week, Quinn Ewers continued to impress with three passing touchdowns. Ewers should have another big day against a UTSA defense coming off a disappointing performance. This matchup represents a perfect opportunity for the Longhorns to improve to 3-0 and the offense to light up the scoreboard.

Final Score: Texas 42, UTSA 7

Longhorns defensive players celebrates after a play as the Texas Longhorns take on Colorado State at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024.

    Trey Luerssen’s Prediction:

Texas needs to be a bit careful here. I see no scenario where Texas loses this game. Let’s get that clear. But if the Horns have a bit of a Michigan hangover and let’s UTSA hang around, that’s not good. First, optics are important. You want to project to future teams on your schedule and poll voters that you’re locked in every game. Second, it would be a sign that there are still some cracks in this team. Sark has been preaching this all week. Don’t fall into the same trap as Notre Dame did against NIU!

Last year, Texas struggled against Wyoming in the week after the big win at Alabama. I don’t think that happens this year. This team looks locked in.

Final Score: Texas 55, UTSA 6
