Longhorns QB Arch Manning named SEC Co-Freshman of the Week

On Monday morning, Arch Manning was named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Freshman of the Week for the first time in his career. The Longhorns star was stellar in Saturday’s win after entering the game in the second quarter for an injured Quinn Ewers.

Against UTSA, Manning completed nine of his twelve passing attempts for 223 yards and four touchdowns. He also made a difference with his legs, recording 53 rushing yards on three carries. On his big night, Manning made history, becoming the fifth SEC freshman QB in the last 15 years to have a 65 yard plus touchdown run. That list includes Anthony Richardson, Malik Willis, LaNorris Sellers, and Johnny Manziel.

With Ewers week to week, Manning could have an opportunity to build on his play this weekend against LMU. The Longhorns should again be heavy favorites behind an offense that seemed unstoppable regardless of who the quarterback is. In two games this season, Manning has added 318 passing yards to his resume.

As Manning looks to lead the Longhorns to a 4-0 record, he will be one of the most closely watched players in college football. Last week, he became the first player in program history to record a 65-yard-plus pass and run in the same game. If the New Orleans native can build on his success, then his stock should continue to rise.

Although how much playing time Manning gets this year is up in the air, Saturday was just the first of what should be many awards in Manning’s career at Texas.
