Lip-readers think Caitlin Clark was jokingly told by the Mystics' coach not to check back in

Caitlin Clark and Washington Mystics head coach Eric Thibault had a very funny exchange Thursday, and lip-readers think they know what it was about.

So many people came to see the Mystics and Fever regular-season finale. In fact, it was the largest regular-season crowd in WNBA history. Fans were likely in attendance to see Washington potentially make the playoffs and, of course, to see Caitlin Clark.

But, everyone who came to see Caitlin might have been disappointed that she didn’t play a full game, as she was on a minutes restriction ahead of the WNBA playoffs — everyone except Eric Thibault. Some good internet sleuths think they caught Eric chatting it up with Caitlin as she checked back in mid-game. Lip-readers believe he told her, “You don’t have to come back in.”

@Michael Feucht, If, that’s true! Why hasn’t any of the veteran black women, in the WNBA, been able to change the landscape and attract new fans and viewership, since they were in the league? It’s my understanding that, none of the arena’s had sold out home games, before the 2024 draft class. The WNBA, certainly wasn’t in high demand, regarding TV ratings. They weren’t prosperous and the league, had an identity problem. Why couldn’t players like, A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Breanne Stewart, Diana Taurasi or Skylar Diggings-Smith. Attract new fans, to watch them play? These are popular players who had enough star power and yet, no one was tuning in to watch any of them. They should be thankful, for the arrival of Caitlin Clark and what she’s done for the WNBA, making it watchable, exciting and entertaining to watch. Stop the pettiness and jealousy! You veteran players, simply didn’t have the kind of game, that caused sellout crowds, in your home arena, or across the league.
