Jayden Daniels can break an NFL record held another former Washington quarterback

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been phenomenal through three weeks. The 2024 NFL draft’s No. 2 overall pick has completed 80% of his passes for 664 yards and two touchdowns.

As terrific as Daniels has been passing the ball, he’s been equally impressive using his legs. Daniels has carried the ball 38 times for 171 yards and three touchdowns. However, the most critical number for Daniels on the ground is the 15 first down he’s gained.

Daniels trails players such as Alvin Kamara, Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley and Jonathan Taylor for rushing first downs through three weeks.

However, Daniels has a chance to break another NFL rookie record during Sunday’s Week 4 game against the Arizona Cardinals. With 171 rushing yards through his first three games, Daniels needs 64 yards to break the record by a rookie in his first four NFL games.

Who holds that record? Former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Hearing that likely doesn’t excite Washington fans. Griffin, like Daniels, is a former Heisman Trophy winner and No. 2 overall pick who also had an electric start to his NFL career. With all due respect to Griffin, the Commanders hope the comparisons end there.

Daniels broke an NFL rookie record in last week’s win over the Bengals, completing 91% of his passes, the highest number ever for a rookie with 20 or more attempts.
