Giants, Daniel Jones hope to snap primetime curse in Week 6

Uh, oh. The New York Giants play a primetime game this week. Time for Giants fans to ready themselves for another possible embarrassment.

The Giants (2-3) play host to the Cincinnati Bengals (1-4) on Sunday Night Football.

One of the reasons the New York Giants receive no love from the national media and oddsmakers is that they never show their best face when the spotlight is on them.

Since Daniel Jones took over as the starting quarterback in 2019, the Giants are 1-14 in games played in primetime.

As a result, Giant fans have begun to loathe primetime games. No matter who the opponent is, the Giants come up small when the eyes of the nation are upon them.

“I’ve heard it, and I understand it’s a talking point for people,” Jones told NorthJersey.com at his locker Wednesday. “But I’m confident and excited for the opportunity. Should be an awesome atmosphere.”

Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, who, along with Jones, was a first-round pick of the Giants in 2019, doesn’t see this trend as more than coincidental.

“I mean since I’ve been here, a lot of games have been tough for us. I don’t think the timing of the game is what causes any losing or anything like that,” he said. “It’s just us coming out and showing that just playing on Sunday rather than — I understand that’s the narrative and all that, but I think it’s just showing up on that day and being ready to play.”

The Giants have a positive matchup this Monday night as the Bengals’ defense has been sieve-like allowing 34.4 points per game to opponents over the past three weeks.

Jones has been playing clean games of late and has been more efficient. If he can continue that, the Giants will compete and have an excellent chance of debunking this primetime curse.
