Everything Texas' Steve Sarkisian and Quinn Ewers said to ABC after blowing out Oklahoma

It wasn’t a pretty start for the Texas Longhorns or QB Quinn Ewers, but in the end the first quarter will go down as a footnote as a part of the Horns 34-3 demolition of the Oklahoma Sooners.

Ewers, who looked rusty throughout the game, finished 20 of 29 for 199 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT.

After the game, ESPN’s Laura Rutledge asked Texas coach Steve Sarkisian about the rivalry win.

“Our defense played fantastic. You know, they did a great job stopping the run. Things got a little dicey early on in the ballgame. And then we kind of settled in offensively and got going in the second quarter.” — Steve Sarkisian

Rutledge then asked Sark about Ewers performance.

“It’s like anything. When you wait that long to play, it was about a month off, there’s going to be a little rust. But I thought he settled in and made some really competitive plays, especially on third down.” — Steve Sarkisian

ESPN’s Holly Rowe then talked to Ewers and asked him about getting the Golden Hat Trophy back.

“It’s awesome to get the hat back. You know, we didn’t have it for a year. It feels good to finally get it back. I couldn’t be more proud of the guys and all the hard work we put in. It’s good to finally get back on the field with my guys. You know I missed two games. I didn’t fully play the way that I wanted to. But I think overall, the way that we play football, that’s what gives us chances to win games. It’s just the complementary football that we do play as a whole.” — Quinn Ewers

“Miss Holly” (as Ewers called her) then asked the junior about his resilience after a slow start.

“I think it’s just like the veteran in all of us. When you’re playing a lot of ball, you understand adversity is going to strike. And at the end of the day, it’s how you come back. It’s how you respond. It’s 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react. So I just lean on Jesus and he continues, continues to put me through adverse times.” — Quinn Ewers

Rowe then asked Ewers how he felt physically after coming back from the oblique injury.

“I feel good. I mean, I feel good. I didn’t really have any issues with it. I’m just glad to have the Golden Hat back. I couldn’t be more proud of the guys.” — Quinn Ewers

Finally, Rowe asked Ewers when they start to look forward to next week’s big game against the Georgia Bulldogs.

“We’re going to enjoy this one on the ride back. Have 12 hours or so. Then it’s on to the next. Where we want to be at the end of the season, we need to continue and continue to get better. That’s what championship teams do. So we’re going to enjoy this one for the next 12 hours or so.” — Quinn Ewers
