The Utah Hockey Club (3-0-0) meets the New Jersey Devils (3-1-0) at Prudential Center in Newark on Monday. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Utah Hockey Club vs. Devils odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

    Season series: First meeting

The Utah Hockey Club is off to a great start. It won 5-2 in the home debut in Salt Lake City last Tuesday, and it has scored 5 or more goals in all 3 outings. Utah is 2-0 on the road trip, winning 5-4 against the New York Islanders on Thursday, and 6-5 against the New York Rangers Saturday. Both wins were in OT. The Over is perfect too (3-0).

For the Devils, they lost their only home game of the season on Thursday 4-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. They won 2 games in Prague against the Buffalo Sabres in the NHL Global Series to start the season, and New Jersey topped the Washington Capitals on the road Saturday, 5-3.

Utah Hockey Club at Devils projected goalies

    Connor Ingram (3-0-0, 3.54 GAA, .874 SV%) vs. Jacob Markstrom (2-1-0, 2.71 GAA, .906 SV%)

Ingram has backstopped every game for Utah so far. The 27-year-old Saskatoon native has allowed 9 goals on 61 shots in 2 games on the road trip. He has done enough to get the job done, though, and it helps to receive 5.7 goals per game of offensive support.

Markstrom let in 4 goals on just 22 shots in his home debut last Thursday. He bounced back with 29 saves on 32 shots in Washington Saturday in a 5-3 victory. One of the 3 goals he allowed came on the power play.

Utah Hockey Club at Devils picks and predictions

    Prediction

Utah Hockey Club 4, Devils 3

The UTAH HOCKEY CLUB (+145) is worth a look as moderate underdogs until someone cools off this offense. RW Dylan Guenther has fired out of the chute with 5 goals, including 2 power-play goals, while captain RW Clayton Keller has 3 goals and a team-leading 6 points in 3 games.

Markstrom and the Devils (-175) will be under fire early and often in this game. Until Utah slows down offensively, keep riding the wave.

If you’re a bit on the conservative side, and you would like some insurance, UTAH HOCKEY CLUB +1.5 (-165) isn’t priced out of line.

Personally, I never like to take the underdog catching the goal and a half, because that can be easily ruined at the end of a close game with an empty-net goal. But, to each their own, if you really just can’t bet it straight up.

OVER 6.5 (-120) is the play, as Utah is averaging 5.7 GPG through the 1st 3 outings. Is Markstrom going to be the one to splash cold water on this red-hot offense?

Since returning to North America, Markstrom has allowed 7 goals in 2 starts, so we could have ourselves another high-scoring game.
