The Indianapolis Colts signed running back Salvon Ahmed on Wednesday, the team announced.

Ahmed (5-11, 197 pounds) had a brief stint with the Denver Broncos earlier this month. After losing Tyler Badie to a back injury, Denver signed Ahmed to its practice squad on Oct. 1 to have more depth at running back.

Ahmed practiced with the Broncos for one week as the fourth-string running back behind Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin and Blake Watson. When Audric Estime was ready to return from IR, the Broncos released Ahmed on Oct. 8, exactly one week after signing him.

The 25-year-old running back will now get a fresh start in Indianapolis, providing depth behind Jonathan Taylor, Trey Sermon, Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull. Ahmed originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Washington with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020.

The 49ers cut Ahmed when they set their 53-man roster that summer and the running back went on to spend four seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He has rushed for 593 yards and five touchdowns in 38 career games (four starts).
