On Saturday, the Tennessee Titans quietly placed defensive back Jamal Adams on the reserve/non-football injury list. This was a curious move, as Adams was already declared out for the Week 6 game due to a hip injury.

On Wednesday, head coach Brian Callahan addressed the media briefly and mentioned that the team is ‘working through’ some things with Adams.

“There’s some things we’re working through that are still kind of ongoing,” Callahan said when asked about the situation. “I’ll let that be for now.”

That is a vague answer that points to something deeper. Since no specifics were given during his media availability, it could point to frustrations from both sides that led to this point.

Being on the reserve/non-football injury list will keep Adams out for at least four weeks. But it also adds to the questions of uncertainty surrounding the situation.

A former first-round pick of the Jets, Adams signed a one-year deal with the Titans in July and has been battling a hip injury from the start. After missing the season opener with his injury, he has been unable to work his way into a steady rotation with Quandre Diggs and Amani Hooker.

In the three games he was available, he recorded only 20 snaps on defense and made very little impact when he was on the field. It’s a far cry from the All-Pro player who was traded from the Jets to the Seattle Seahawks.

With the Titans struggling at 1-4, this is a distraction that the team doesn’t need as they attempt to jumpstart their season. Especially as they turn their attention to their Week 7 tilt with the Buffalo Bills.
