Week 8 of the 2024 college football campaign was a fun one for the fans as once again the top end of the rankings saw a bit of an overhaul following some surprising results.

As it is wont to be, the Southeastern Conference again found itself in the thick of the drama with some of its top schools battling it out on the gridiron this Saturday. The results from those clashes sent a ripple throughout the national landscape and from it emerges a new top team.

The Associated Press Poll Top 25 is headlined by the Oregon Ducks, who sit perched atop the nation with 1,523 points and 59 first-place votes. The spot was opened up by the now-second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, who beat the previous No. 1 Texas Longhorns last Saturday and now hold two first-place votes; UT fell to fifth in the rankings.

The Penn State Nittany Lions and Ohio State Buckeyes fill in the remaining third and fourth spots, respectively, in the AP Poll’s top five.

SEC teams in AP Poll Top 25

After eight weeks of play, the SEC now boasts nine member schools among the top 25 teams, with the Tennessee Volunteers (No. 7) and LSU Tigers (No. 8) rounding out the top 10 along with the ‘Dawgs and ‘Horns.

The Texas A&M Aggies (No. 14), Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 15), Ole Miss Rebels (No. 18) and Missouri Tigers (No. 21) continue to represent the conference while the Vanderbilt Commodores snuck in at No. 25 this week after a surprisingly strong season so far. No other schools earned votes.
