Horses are called gentle giants for a reason: they're really sweet, as long as you're kind to them. They know to take it easy on their favorite humans, thanks to their incredible intelligence.

Horses are part of the family! That means that all new siblings must meet them, and when they grow up, they'll know the horse just like you do. Watching a family horse "accept" a new member is a beautiful thing. On Sunday, July 7th, one new mom got to witness this herself, and it was just as beautiful as she'd hoped:

I'm so glad that this meeting went as well as @lucillaurelia hoped it would. I just know they're going to grow up to be best friends!

The mom in the video is a very busy mom; she has a horse, a dog, at least one cat, and now, a child! She spent her whole pregnancy riding her horse, taking her last ride just shortly before her baby was born. She said the baby was about 5 weeks premature, and they spent 10 days in the NICU before they were allowed to go home. Of course, one of the first things she did was take her baby to meet her sibling!

There are many restrictions during pregnancy, and some advise that horseback riding during pregnancy isn't a good idea . You could fall, and the repetitive bouncing can cause placental abruption, which could cause preterm labor or a miscarriage. However, many equestrians continue, stating that a safe, gentle trot around with your horse won't hurt as long as you know it well. Maybe avoid the Kentucky Derby.

    Horses Love Babies

Before you go introducing your horse to your fragile new baby, you should make sure they're properly tamed and won't buck up or anything. Once you're sure your horse will be safe around the baby, though, you can introduce them!

Horses know when something needs protection, and they love being able to provide that. Vulnerable people like children and babies are a perfect example: if someone the horse doesn't know gets too close , you may find they start getting aggressive!

Even though horses are typically great with kids, you should still be sure that you're always around to supervise. Horses also tend to gently nibble on the people or animals they love as a sign of affection, which is so sweet, but you should try not to allow it. If your baby comes in contact with a horse's bodily fluids, keep their hands away from their mouth and give them a bath immediately!
