West Nile Virus has been discovered in Las Vegas, only 100 miles from the Utah Border. A record number of mosquitoes in Las Vegas are carrying West Nile virus, prompting local health officials to warn the public to be careful and take precautions. Recently, 169 out of over 24,000 mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile across the state. This early season count breaks previous records set 5 years ago.
Google Fiber Reaches Agreement to Create Network in Hyde Park, Utah
Hyde Park is the latest community in Utah to agree to deployment of a Google Fiber network, according to the company. The Herald Journal reported that the Hyde Park City Council approved the agreement during a meeting on June 26. Google Fiber, which is branded as GFiber, will begin construction this year and connect its first customers next summer. A Google representative confirmed the agreement to Telecompetitor.

SALT LAKE CITY — It appears that Utah's bid to retain the Sundance Film Festival beyond 2026 will focus on splitting it between its current home and its first one. Few details about Utah's bid have been made available since the Utah Film Commission announced Utah had filed a request for proposal response to the Sundance Institute in May. The commission confirmed that it submitted a request-for-proposals response — to Sundance's questions about the bid — on June 20, but it declined to offer many details about what's in the request.
