Alliant Energy executes multiple power supply deals with data centers
(Reuters) - Utility firm Alliant Energy said on a post-earnings call on Friday that it has executed multiple power supply deals with data centers. The increasing popularity of advanced AI tools such as OpenAI's ChatGPT has led to a growing need for high-performance data centers, which are capable of processing the vast amounts of data required to handle large volumes of information, boosting demand for electricity.
Goss: July BCI numbers put chill on economy
(Omaha) -- One of KMAland's leading indicators says the Midwest economy is as cool as the region's temperatures are hot. Creighton University's Mid-America Manufacturing Index indicates the Business Conditions Index dropped from 51.3 in June to 50.7 in July. Business leaders and supply managers in a nine-state region including Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri take the monthly survey. While July's number is still above 50.0--which is considered growth neutral--Creighton University Economics Professor Dr. Ernie Goss says it's still not a good number.

One Taken To Hospital After Rock Rapids Accident
Rock Rapids, Iowa — One person was taken to a hospital after an accident near Rock Rapids on Thursday. According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 61-year-old Consuelo Benavides of Rock Rapids was northbound on Harding Avenue, about a mile and two-thirds north-northwest of Rock Rapids in a 2020 GMC Terrain when she was struck by a turning vehicle, initially traveling southbound. That vehicle was a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by 52-year-old Peter Almas of Sioux Falls.
