UVALDE, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Uvalde's police chief submitted his resignation Tuesday, just days after a city-commissioned report cleared the city's police department and its officers of any wrongdoing in the 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School.

Chief Daniel Rodriguez' resignation will be effective on April 6, according to reporting by the Uvalde Leader-News .

Rodriguez was on vacation and out of town on May 24, 2022, when a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers. UPD Lt. Mariano Pargas was serving as the department's acting chief in Rodriguez's absence; Pargas resigned from the department in November 2022.

Last week, a third-party report and investigation conducted by former Austin Police detective Jesse Prado angered family members of the victims. The report found that the city's police officers followed department policies and procedures - despite officers waiting 77 minutes before breaching the classroom where the gunman had barricaded himself.

Rodriguez has been with UPD since 1997; he left the department for a year in 2006 to serve with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
