Kellen LaChappelle of Uxbridge and Madison Pitro of West Boylston won Athlete of the Year awards for boys and girls, respectively, at the Central Mass High School Sports Awards on Wednesday, June 26, at the Hanover Theatre.

Other boys finalists were Jamie McNamara of Tahanto and Joe Okla of North. Other girls finalists were Caroline Collins of Nashoba Regional and Rileigh Leary of Wachussett.

LaChapelle shined on the gridiron this season, making his second appearance on the Hometeam Super Team after helping the Uxbridge football team finish 13-0 and win the Division 7 state championship before he heads off to play at Trinity College. LaChapelle was also a key cog on the Spartans' basketball team, averaging just under six points a game as Uxbridge finished 13-9.

It doesn't seem to matter what sport she plays, Pitro will quickly establish herself as one of the best to play it. She led the Lions girls' soccer team in scoring with 23 goals and 11 assists and was named the Mid-Wach D MVP after helping West Boylston to the Division 5 state tournament. Pitro continued to excel in the winter, earning her second T&G Hometeam all-star nod after helping West Boylston reach the Division 5 state final by averaging 16.3 points as the Lions finished 22-4. She was a two-time basketball captain at West Boylston and a three-time Mid-Wach D MVP in hoops. She wrapped up her amazing career in softball with a Mid-Wach D all-star spot and a .378 batting average with 11 RBIs.
