Man arrested after trying to stab Vacaville store employee

( KRON ) — A Vacaville man was arrested on Friday afternoon after he tried to stab an employee of a local store, the Vacaville Police Department said. He allegedly charged and headbutted an officer before he was taken into custody.

The manager of Shop Heroic Wholesale Outlet, which sells everything from clothes to air conditioners to dog food at 615 Elmira Road in Vacaville, called police just before 1 p.m. to say a man tried to stab an employee.

Surveillance video (above) shows the man throwing an item at the employee and swiping at him before leaving the store.

Officers found the suspect, who was shirtless, headed towards Nut Tree Plaza. They held him at gunpoint and told him to keep his hands in the air, police said.

“The man initially complied but maintained an odd distant, yet unmistakably menacing glare in his eyes,” a VPD Facebook post said.

Police said he then dropped his hands and walked “aggressively” towards the officers. The officers told him he would be tased if he kept walking, and he stopped, police said.

The suspect was identified as Steven Daniel Case, 40. VPD said he had also committed a strong-arm robbery at a Walmart Friday morning. Case also allegedly slashed tires on his way out of Shop Heroic.

Police found a knife on Case’s person after taking him into custody. He had several other arrests over the past few months, and he is being held in jail with no bail.
