VADNAIS HEIGHTS — The Suburban East Conference winning streak ended, but the league title hopes remain for Stillwater following a 3-2 loss to Mounds View in a boys hockey game on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the TCO Sports Garden.

With a victory, the Ponies (13-2-0 SEC, 13-9-1) could have clinched at least a share of their first SEC title since 2017, but Mounds View (5-9-2, 7-15-2) halted their 13-game conference winning streak instead.

Stillwater defeated the Mustangs 7-3 earlier this season, but Mounds View struck for three goals in the opening period of the rematch. Mitch Olson needed just 28 seconds to put the Mustangs on the board and Johnny Conlin followed with the first of his two first-period goals just four minutes later to build a 2-0 lead.

Brody Dustin scored his team-leading 15th goal for Stillwater at 6:46, but Conlin regained a two-goal advantage for the Mustangs with less than two minutes remaining on the period for a 3-1 advantage.

The Ponies outshot Mounds View 25-12 in the second and third periods. Luke Myers scored on the power play three minutes into the third period for Stillwater, but Sam Moen totaled 33 saves overall to preserve the lead for the Mustangs.

Even with the loss, Stillwater remains tied in the loss column with White Bear Lake with just one conference game remaining. The Bears (12-2-0, 15-7-1) have games remaining against Woodbury and Cretin-Derham Hall. The Ponies closed out their conference schedule by hosting East Ridge on Feb. 15 and then host Holy Family (14-8-1) in a nonconference game on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Batchelor, a senior, contributed a goal for the Ponies in the first and then scored the game-winner at 10:19 of the third period to lift the Ponies to a regular season sweep of the Raiders (10-4-0 SEC, 13-9-1).
