USA Today's Homefront brand recently published a report on the 2024 short-term rental market, looking at where the best places for investment in a rental property were, as well as where the most expensive and cheapest rentals can be found, among other things.

According to the report, short-term vacation rentals make up a $64 billion market, with more than 2.4 million properties spread around the country and around 785,000 hosts.

Utilizing data from AirDNA, the publication determined that Columbus, Georgia was the best place nationwide to invest in a short-term rental property, with home values at about $161,000 and average annual revenue estimated at $29,000. No Colorado spot made the list of 'top 10' investment spots.

A Colorado town did, however, top the list when it came to what places were the most expensive for renters to stay.

Vail, Colorado was determined to have an average daily rate of $785.50 for a stay in a short-term rental, above a national average of $308 and more than six times the 'cheapest' place to stay – El Paso, Texas, with an average daily rate of $123.80. Breckenridge also ranked among the 10 most expensive short-term rental spots, costing $496.70 per night and ranking as the 9th-most expensive.

Are you surprised by these findings? What's the most you'll pay for a night in a short-term rental? Let us know in the comments.
