WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Valley Center Police Department Captain Matt Vogt says no charges have been filed in the shooting death of Kirk Stanley, 46, of Valley Center.

Vogt told KSN Stanley’s death could be ruled as a case of self-defense.

Stanley was shot by a 22-year-old woman in the early morning hours of May 19 in the 7400 Block of N. West St.

The VCPD says the woman was detained and questioned about the shooting. She was later released after a forensic exam was conducted.

Police presented the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office on June 20. If new evidence is discovered, charges could be sought later.
