Wichita storm damage includes car crushed by fallen tree
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A car was crushed by a tree during Wednesday night’s storm in northwest Wichita. Danielle McVey that at around 2 a.m. Thursday, she was asleep inside her home on Westridge Court. Her mom and sister were awake and they saw the tree come down. Nobody was hurt, except for McVey’s feelings. Two other cars were damaged.
One person killed in Russell County storm
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A 64-year-old man was killed in a Russell County storm that produced strong winds and heavy rain. The storm moved into Russell County at around 11:30 Wednesday night. Multiple 911 calls into Russell County dispatch reported multiple campers at Lake Wilson being blown over. Three people were hospitalized and another person, 64-year-old Christopher Montoya of Hollyrood, was found dead in the Hell Creek area of the park.

Sink holes cause problems in Wichita area
Crews were dealing with damage caused by two sink holes on Wednesday, one in Wichita and the other in Bel Aire. A sink hole appeared in the 3200 block of East Douglas, just east of Hillside, in the westbound lanes, and city crews were working to make repairs. Both westbound lanes have been closed to traffic.

Alyvia Owens has been named a finalist for Small College Female Athlete of the Year after helping lead the Lady Bluejays to the 2024 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) regular season title in Women's Basketball, the 2024 KCAC Women's Basketball tournament title, and a berth in the 2024 NAIA Women's Basketball tournament. Owens led the Bluejays in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game, while shooting an incredible 52.1% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range. Owens brought in 4.7 boards per game and snagged 1.7 steals in addition to her performance on offense.
