The resignation of Town Clerk/Treasurer Kim Harris highlighted the Valley Grande City Council meeting on June 3.

Wanda Champion was approved by the council to succeed Harris, who will appear at city office three times a week until starting her job in August. Harris began working in Valley Grande in 2018 when Matt Dobbs was mayor.

With tears in her eyes and speaking under a cracked voice, Kim Harris said she enjoyed working with the Valley Grande City Council.

The entire council was present, Mayor Wayne Labbe, council members Sara Day, Kay Davidson, Jane Harris, Bruce Hughes and Robbie Rose. They all thanked Kim Harris for the wonderful work she did.

“I’m going to miss her so much,” Day said.

    In other council business:

    • Labbe said that Patsy Moore and Judy Harris are working with attorney Ralph C. Hobbs on the sale of the Valley Grande Community Center. They are working on funds to pay attorney fees. Labbe said he told Hobbs to proceed.

At the previous council meeting, Dallas County Commissioner Vivian Rogers, Dallas County Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn and Dallas County engineer Anthony Crear appeared. Rogers inquired about closing one end of the road the community center pool is on.

The next Valley Grande City Council meeting will be June 17 at 5 p.m. at Valley Grande City Hall.
