HARLINGEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — With the new FAFSA Simplification Act that debuted this year, there have been many changes, updates, and glitches.

Nicole Saenz with Region One said, “We want the community to know how important FAFSA is regardless of some of these changes. This Simplification Act is the first one in about 40 years. It has caused lots of delays and glitches. But we want students to know that they can now go and make updates to any corrections that are needed. It is pivotal that they complete the FAFSA because it is the gateway to getting federal financial aid, which includes Pell Grants, work-study, and loans,” she said.

The first thing students should do is get with their counselor, and gear facilitator. They will need to create an FSA ID which is free at student aid.gov . With this new application, every user needs to have their FSA ID. That includes the student and the parents, sometimes even step-parents, depending on their application.
