HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — As PSJA ISD prepares to begin a new school year Aug. 26, the district is excited to announce the upcoming opening of its new PSJA Alamo Building Blocks Academy.

Construction is set to be completed in the coming weeks and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony will be scheduled for September.

PSJA ISD Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias spoke about the need for a second building blocks academy.

“Because we are a tri-city, I knew that the need was going to be there. We built one in the Pharr area, and that one is almost at capacity and still gaining momentum. I felt we needed to serve the San Juan Alamo area, which is this location. Eventually, I plan to continue to expand, and as we build those foundations for those students, I think more and more people in other districts would want to see our model, and this is a model that truly will connect students all through their educational career.”

“Our campus is based just for early childhood. We focus on the early childhood experiences of our students,” said Denise Garcia, PSJA Alamo Building Blocks Academy principal. “We offer play-based learning and it’s a little different than our regular campuses. We offer Pre-K3, Pre-K4, and Kinder. That experience is a little bit different because parents feel more comfortable about taking their children to this campus. There are hands-on activities and outdoor learning environments. So those things get people excited about joining our campus.”

The new campus will be located at 1440 W. Crockett St. For more information call (956) 354-2510.
