72-year-old bicyclist dies after being hit by car

McALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A McAllen bicyclist who died after being hit by a car has been identified.

The bicyclist was identified as 72-year-old Juan Cantu Silva, a McAllen resident.

At 8:47 p.m. Wednesday, authorities responded to a car and bicycle collision on McColl Road, near the intersection of East Jonquil Avenue.

According to a news release from the McAllen Police Department, the driver hit Silva on the road.

Silva was taken to the hospital for medical treatment, where he was pronounced dead. The driver remained on the scene to report the accident.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
