REYNOSA, Mexico ( ValleyCentral ) — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is alerting deputies and residents of a tiger that escaped from its enclosure Wednesday.

HCSO deputies and personnel were alerted by Reynosa police about the tiger escape along the banks of the Rio Grande.

The tiger is said to have escaped from Quinta La Fauna zoo.

“We have not been to assist Reynosa, but we have advised our deputies to remain vigilant,” said Lt. Enrique Longoria with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.

There have been zero reported sightings of the tiger or any reports of domestic animals being killed or injured.

Longoria says there is no information if the tiger crossed the Rio Grande into the U.S., but it remains a possibility.

The zoo announced on their social media that they will be closed until further notice.

ValleyCentral will provide updates as they become available.
