    Peñitas PD search for suspect involved in fatal hit-and-run

    PEÑITAS, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Peñitas police are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver responsible for a fatal hit and run.

    At 8:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4, authorities responded to an auto-ped collision at the 3400 block of Tom Gill, just north of 3 Mile Line.

    That is where police found the unresponsive woman, Maria Cirlos. According to a news release from the department, a witness at the scene began performing CPR on Cirlos until EMS paramedics arrived at the scene.

    Cirlos was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

    Investigators say the vehicle involved in the fatal crash is a dark-colored GMC Sierra with noticeable front-end damage. According to police, the truck was last seen traveling southbound on Tom Gil Road.

    Anyone with information regarding the case or the suspect’s whereabouts and pickup is asked to contact investigator Oscar Barron at (956) 454-1244.
