Robert Vackar named 2024 Golden Eagle Awardee

McALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Robert Vackar has been named the 2024 Golden Eagle Awardee by the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The award is given annually to an individual or company significantly impacting the RGV through community service and leadership.

Vackar was born in Gonzalez, Texas and raised in Edinburg and has been a cornerstone of the community since his return to the Valley after graduating from Texas A&M University and serving in the U.S. Army.

He also helped Bert Ogden Motors expand from a single dealership to 20 locations with 21 franchise lines, which created over 1,000 jobs and boosted the local economy.

Vackar is a community advocate involved in real estate developments that spur economic growth to substantial educational and veteran support initiatives.

“Robert Vackar embodies the spirit of the Golden Eagle Award through his unwavering commitment to our community and his remarkable leadership in both business and philanthropy,” said Cynthia Sakulenski, President and CEO of RGVHCC. “His efforts have not only transformed our local economy but have also inspired countless individuals to strive for excellence. We are proud to honor him with this award.”

Vackar is especially recognized for his historic endowment leading to the naming of the Robert and Janet Vackar College of Business at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

The award ceremony will be held on Oct. 25 during the annual Noche de Gala at the Kalos Event Center.
