Mom drunkenly drives, crashes with 3 children onboard: Docs

MCALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — A mother from Alton remains in jail after she drunkenly crashed her vehicle while her children were in the car, court records show.

Jacqueline Perez Gomez was booked into jail Thursday on charges related to the near-fatal crash that left her three children hospitalized.

The crash happened July 15 on the 5600 block of S. Ware Rd. in McAllen.

Court records show Gomez was traveling northbound on Ware Road when she ran a red light and struck a vehicle that was turning eastbound.

Gomez had three of her children in the car at the time of the crash, according to the report. Her children were identified by police as a 2-month old baby, a 3 year old and a 7 year old.

Approximately two weeks after the crash, Child Protective Services filed a report with McAllen police alleging Gomez admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time of the accident.

A detective on the case reported Gomez’s blood alcohol content level was .25 at the time of the screening, court records show.

A drug screening also revealed Gomez’s urine test came back positive for cocaine.

Two children suffered injuries that required surgery. Some of the injuries mentioned on the court record are concussions, deep lacerations and fractures.

Hidalgo County jail records show Gomez is currently booked on the following charges:

• Two charges of intoxication assault with a vehicle
• One charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age
• Three charges of child criminal negligence

Gomez is faced with $10,000 per count, totaling her bond to $70,000.
