MCALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The City of McAllen is warning residents of a scam email asking residents for payment.

City officials say multiple scam emails were sent Sunday night regarding a city compensation fee with an attached invoice.

“The City of McAllen does not have a City Compensation Fee, the City of McAllen Planning & Zoning Department does not operate on Sunday evenings and invoices are not sent by email,” the city announced in a press release.

According to the release, the scam email appears to show an @usa.com inbox.

The City of McAllen only uses the @mcallen.net inbox.

The city advises residents to disregard and to report suspicious emails as junk.
