McALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The City of McAllen hosted two public meetings to gather the community’s opinion on proposed changes.

The first meeting was held at 2:30 p.m. at the Planning and Zoning Commission Workshop, located at 1300 W. Houston Avenue, at the McAllen City Hall Commission Chamber.

The second meeting was held at 4 p.m. in a town hall-style meeting by the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, located at 1200 Ash Avenue.

Edgar Garcia, Director of Planning for the City of McAllen said the meeting is for the newly drafted Unified Development Code, which is intended to make developments faster and better for residents in McAllen.

Garcia added some changes that were discussed in the meeting were the introduction of mixed-use zoning, such as having commercial space on the first floor and residential on top.

“Input is very important because, at the end of the day, we are working for the public, so we want to know what they think, so we can make any changes that will benefit them,” said Garcia.

The public has many ways to submit their opinion on the new changes. The public can call city offices directly or submit their comments at mcallen.net.
