LOS FRESNOS, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Community members in Los Fresnos voiced concerns on overgrown grass in their neighborhood, a hazard that makes their area a breeding ground for pests. The grass on California Road near State Highway 100 also covers street signs and puts drivers at risk.

Margarita Esparza lives on the road, and is concerned with overflowing grasses and mosquitoes near her neighborhood.

“One can call to complain, and they tell us ‘no that part does not belong to us, that belongs to another district’ and they don’t come,” Esparza said. “And now we call for them about the mosquitoes, and they’re not little mosquitoes. They are big mosquitoes.”

Cameron County Environmental Health Director Gustavo Olivares says the grass is indeed a hazard, but crews could only start cutting in her neighborhood now that the recent rain has subsided.

“Some of these rains are causing this tall grass to happen, so we also have to understand that [it’s] finally starting to dry up to giving people the opportunity to cut the grass and do their part,” Olivares said.

Olivares says multiple departments need to be reached out to for different overgrowths, and while public canals are the responsibility of the county’s drainage district, mosquitoes and grasses on private property are up to the owner.

Bottom line is city and county don't do their job. City of Los Fresnos can't even patch up the holes that are in the residential areas. They don't spray enough. That dude in the video behind the desk making his 2 minutes of fame on TV is a poor excuse for an individual. It's just blah blah blah. THEY'RE JUST SAYERS NOT DOERS!!!! NOTHING GETS DONE IN THIS AREA. AND ITS A DAMN SHAME THEY LET IT GO ON !!!!😡👍
